The Flemington - Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad offers our condolences to the members of the Lambertville - New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad, and to the family and friends of Mr. James "Chief" Marriot.
Chief Marriot passed away on Saturday July 3rd at the age of 86. He was a life member of 17 Rescue for over 60 years, having served multiple terms as both president and chief. He served on the Squad's Heavy Rescue Team during the 1960's, and served as an EMT instructor for over 35 years, with much of that time as the coordinator for the Hunterdon County EMT program. He was also a life member of the Union Fire Company of the Lambertville FD.
Chief Marriot had a special connection to our Squad, as he served for over twenty six years as the athletic trainer and first responder at Hunterdon Central High School until his retirement several years ago. Many of us can recall hearing Chief on the radio as we arrived at the school for calls. He was first on the scene for anything at the school and often times anywhere nearby. We interacted so often that we assigned him the radio call letters "49-50H" under the former officer numbering system. Jim was always a professional and a pleasure to work with. He trained and was a positive influence to many first responders in New Jersey. He will be missed.
Rest in Peace, Chief.
