PRESS RELEASE
The Raritan Township Office of Emergency Management is monitoring the second storm to affect the township in a week. This office is in contact with the County Office of Emergency Management, which is receiving reports from the National Weather Service. The Raritan Township Police, The Raritan Fire Department and Flemington-Raritan Rescue Squad along with the Raritan Township Road Department are preparing their response to the storm. Staffing levels are being assessed as well as equipment is being double-checked to meet the anticipated need.
The Township Offices will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday February 10, 2010 and will re-open on Thursday February 11, 2010 morning for regular business hours. The tax payment due date has been extended to Thursday, February 11, 2010.
Residents are reminded to stay off the roads as much as possible; keeping the streets clear will allow road crews to more effectively clear the snow. Snow shoveling is a strenuous task and should be done carefully as to not overexert. Check with your neighbors and families to assist those who might be able to make safe passage. Additionally when removing snow, please clear snow away from fire hydrants in your neighborhood. 9-1-1 should be limited to emergencies only. Use local numbers to inquire about closings and road conditions.
JCP&L reminds customers to report power outages by calling 888-544-4877 (1-888-LIGHTSS). To ensure safety, customers should contact the JCP&L and Residents are cautioned to never touch downed wires because they may still be carrying electricity. Customers should also never attempt to remove tress, branches or limbs from power lines.
Remember: “If it looks wet it can be icy”.
